Arts In Your Eyes, @ The December Arts Café

Friday the 3rd of December was a date on your Advent Calender, that you should have been sure not to have missed!

As well as the Monthly Arts Café, there was another celebration for the hard-working Eden Volunteers! With Joy, and added Merriness, everyone was pleased to welcomed into the warmth of Eden's Core.
Starting off the night, Jelly Jazz started their DJ set with style. To follow on their previous performance at the November Arts Café, they brought the newest music in their most interesting mixes, to set the night a-float.

To follow on their performance, the magnificently different Melosa, who claimed to be a "Ska Machine". As I had never heard "Ska", music before, I must admit- I wasn't quite sure what to expect. As they began their set, they brought an electric atmosphere, and something unique to the stage.

Then to, end the night blissfully, was no other than the high-rising Boxettes, who brought something of an original performance. Featuring Bellatrix, the World-Champion Female Beatboxer, these fiesty young women brought excellence to The Core's steamy stage.
The audience were energetic, positively charged and ready for an exciting night full of Ska, Beatboxing, Origami, and even MC's.

But that's certainly not what the Night itself was all about. It was about expressing different types of art in a different fashion each event. In contrast to the November event, it has shown that the Eden Project are capable of adjusting to whatever's thrown in front of them.

All of the Volunteers that attended Christmas Capers were in awe at the performances in front of their eyes. Everyone had a smile to share with one another, and it was once again a beautiful night, bursting with Diversity.

Although, this has been the second event that I have been to, they have both differed to a wide extent.

My first Arts Café experience was fresh, individuality, and unique. It proved that you don't have to be an X-factor contestant to perform at an awesome Gig, and you don't have stick to things your comfortable doing to have a wicked time.

Where as, my second Arts Café experience was more of a community cohesion, full of festive merriment, and perhaps more relaxed. Both of the events tried hard to grab the attention of the Public- but never in a desperate-for-attention way.

It always proceeds to try hard to bring those who haven't, or wouldn't usually, get to know each other by doing things creatively with each other. Choirs and Poetry slams, A talented Ska band with the eccentric, diverse crowd, and The Eden Project with the up-and-coming Youth of tomorrow.

So, if you had missed this spectacular event, have no fear! The next Arts Café event is on the first friday of the month, starting with our February Arts Café 2011. And with the Line-up not yet announced, Who knows what to expect!
Ticket prices are between £7-10, and you can find out more information from the Official Eden Project website, and the Arts Café Facebook Page!

Unfortunately due to the excessive amounts of water on our ice rink, we're afraid that it will be CLOSED until further notice.

The Managing Director, Gaynor Coley claims;

“Sadly the damage to the Ice Rink is more severe than we first thought so at this moment we can’t say how soon skating will return to Eden. We are sorry for the disappointment this causes. We are doing everything we can to bring the skating back as soon as possible.”

Re-opening

The Eden Project will Re-Open on
Wednesday the 24th of November

Image from http://www.0095b6.com

The Eden Project was set to lose up to 9,000 visitors last week, and has suffered through the worst with the surprise flash floods affected those around the area, but with incredible community cohesion- everyone has managed to come up smiling and shining.

Unfortunately, most of the creative work made within The Hive of Activity has been destroyed, the Link building between the Biomes has been heavily affected- along with the Zzub Zzub, and there is no notice of when the Ice Rink will become available once more to the public.

However, there is an upside to the Eden's dampening downfall. Tickets until further notice have been announced at half of the price. So you can enjoy the beautiful plant life at The Eden Project and you'll still be able to buy food at The Core building, where you will be able to enjoy The Hive of Activity.

Audience

So with everything up-in-the-air I'm sure that the Eden Team will be on their best to give you the best experience you probably can, and whilst in that Winter-Wonderland time-of-the-year, where else would you want to be?

With that oh-so-special Christmas spirit, and lots of festive cheer, there's something for everyone at Eden, each and everyday of the year!

Floods @ Eden

Lostwithiel, Par, St. Austell, St. Blazey, and now the Eden Project.

Since the unfortunate amounts of rainfall on Tuesday the 16th of November, The Eden Project has suffered an awful downpour since the rain has hit.

The Link building, the Core, the Visitors Centre, the Dome, and most of the site has been heavily hurt by the weather this week, destroying some of the crafts that have been created within the Hive of Activity, and for the Time of Gifts, as well as bringing destruction the atmosphere here at The Eden Project.

However, there's always a rainbow that follows from an unusual and unsettling day of mayhem- most of the food that could be rescued went to help those affected by the floods in local areas, a local agricultural programme helped to save most of the plant life, and the Biomes remained unaffected.

Along with the good news in the building- the staff and volunteers have helped to make their contribution by helping with cleaning, as well as trying to sort everything out in anticipation for re-opening!

As well as trying to get all hands on board, the team has managed to keep the public well informed through their blog with regular updates and pictures.

Eden Meets Live And Deadly

Steve Backshall and Naomi Wilkinson hit The Eden Project as they continue to tour the Country with their hit kids' TV show, 'Live and Deadly'.
Steve shows the public the scariest, deadliest snakes, the creepiest spiders and some interesting insects on the way, whilst Naomi takes a balloon ride like no other.

Through the word-of-mouth at The Eden Project whilst working there today, I heard that some children and the cast had arrived as early as 5am, whist others arrived at 8am. Many of the children were excited, most of them brave and enthusiastic: none of them afraid.

In the Hive of Activity, Many children were bustling and bursting into the area to get their autographs from the presenters, and the atmosphere became a sparkling one, as the kids ran in cheerfully with
their parents. The presenters also stayed longer than they had planned to as so many children were anxious to meet them, pleasing many.

Along with bringing their interesting show that many are able to watch (as well as children), they brought enthusiasm to Eden as they told the Nation about the great atmosphere on the site, which we were all appreciated to hear.

So if you missed it, be sure to take a look on BBC iPlayer!

The Arts Café

The Arts Café set a-light last Friday night, revealing itself to be quite the firecracker, banging out creativity from every angle, and sparkling with an electric atmosphere.

The night began with an excited air, performers were sat relaxing- anxious to get on stage and waiting for their curtain call, whilst the spectators filed in one by one. The Core was decorated with different stalls; The Barefoot Games, Cornwall College, Green Peace, Falmouth Un
iversity, Plymouth College of Art, and many more. Alongside Paul McGowan's collection 'Precipice' from his project, 'Blockhead' gazing up at the entrance, DJ sets within the classrooms, Drummers, Three Graffiti areas, and placed accordingly at the heart of the building lies Centre Stage.

As half seven grew into place, Dizraeli and The Small Gods began on the stage, within preparation and expectation of guests. As the crowds blew in from the brisk, November wind the bar made it's first appearance- and the atmosphere grew with rapid speed and under a fizzling air.

The Night continued with Ministry of Song, who brought their own choir-acquired sound to currents and classics. An organised, lovely group of women who brought an enormous amount of team-spirit and helped to draw crowds from the exhibits above down to the main performance area.

In the mean time, The Barefoot Boutique held an animation/film activity for guests of The Arts Café, also with clay modelling for those of all ages, and a series of Graffiti activities around the building for those with hands-on creativity.

Continuing on: Jelly Jazz, who began with their own twist of popular, present chart-topping dance music. Putting a positive spin on current cool tracks, getting the crowd up and going to launch of the night. Following up on the note of DJs, Dante Gabriel, Penzance born DJ brought his mix to the tables, as he helped to unleash the night to the active, diverse rows of spectators below.

Throughout the night, there were many stands around The Core; including DJ's in a classroom- attracting those of a younger age- those who found him esteemed and very talented, and those who wanted somewhere more suited to their "cool" personalities. Either response was welcomed- and helped to make our resident performer more popular in the night.

There was truly no definite age range for the night, from youngsters of the age of ten, to perhaps those in their late 40's, there was a collective of people attending- all full of enthusiasm. I could easily pinpoint it as being the most out-of-the-ordinary, couldn't-have-had-any-idea, different event that I have ever been to.

Sadly, Kate Tempest and Sound of Rum could not attend for an unspecified reason- but the night went on, filling the audience with noises irregularly collaborated with one another. After the DJ's ended their sets, They were followed on by the Truro School of Samba, who brought half-naked ladies, dancing, drums, feathers and a more-than energetic persona to the centre-stage below. The audience began to join in, and as they brought more movement, the crowd began to join in joyously- men, women, children of all ages! Everyone had something to move to.

Dizraeli and The Small Gods then took the stage once more, accompanied by the Ministry of Song, apologising for the absence of Kate Tempest and The Sound of Rum and claiming to make the best of improvisation. The audience took their words seriously.

As the two groups began, they were also joined with guest MC's, who brought a flair of originality to the stage with the already-unpractised, and never rehearsed performance that the two acts reflected to the public. No-one was disappointed, and even the 'West Country' along with the 'Eden Project' got a mention from Dizraeli; who aimed to please everyone.

Everyone pleased the crowd, every exhibit, every activity, and every performance grew within the atmosphere at The Eden Project. Nothing failed to work and as a whole, everyone came out of the event with a smile on their face (even if they were slightly tired). No-where else in Cornwall would place an event like this in front of your eyes, and no-where else would showcase it with such a brilliant bang!

The Arts Café is set to fly into the skies, so make sure your a part of the next event!

Successful Scares

Thursday and Friday night became a slithering, sneaky, superbly surrendering scary-scream fest!
The evening was a fantastic, fun-filled night for all those who attended and for all those who were involved.

The night began with terror; ending with tremor. From start to finish it was creeping with crawling creatures and carried a group with great pleasure around the trembling biome. Every individual person came out with stung with excitement entering the 'Zzub Zzub', bringing the atmosphere out to those waiting impatiently in-front of them.

On the first night, we brought doom, gloom and chainsaw madness to to the public. The people of the public said that they most enjoyed the frights at "Bam-Bams", and in the "Rubber Hut"- but everyone was at their limit with adrenaline, and bursting to the brim with brilliance when observing every Scare Scene on the night.

Apart from the attention that the Fire Alarm stole on the second night, the spectators seemed exuberantly excited and eager to enter. Everyone seemed to have been more creeped-out than we originally thought possible, Mainly with many of the groups continually screaming at the "Scharacters" on stilts.

To continue, The two nights flew to flight tremendously- not only in the eyes of the public but also in the minds of the performers and producers. Meeting new people, Having fun and food
(importantly) provided, alongside talking to those who were in similar situations to myself - The project worked wonders for myself as a 'Newbie' to the Eden experience. "Scream" at Eden will be magic to remember for the rest of November and beyond.

Thankyou to everyone who contributed to The Eden Project by buying tickets to "Skate & Scream". We are sure Halloweden will return next year with a vengeance..

Nature's Dark Side

Make sure to buy your tickets quickly, as they are already almost SOLD OUT!!
Also, a very big Thankyou to those who have bought tickets and helped to support The Eden Project- we will make sure that you are superbly spooked and horrendously horrified.
Good Luck...

A Thunderous Thursday Followed By A Freakier Friday..

Tortuous surroundings trapping your every move, ghosts, ghouls and ghastly creations creeping in each of your every steps- and horrors horribly horrific following every haunted breath you take.

For screams, scares and serious "Scharacters" (the trick is to pronounce it with an American accent: Sca-rect-ers) You can't afford to be anywhere else but in the gruelling and gross atmosphere of the resurrected Rainforest Biome; where the terrors will arise before your eyes. Through costume, direction, choreography and effects, the night is set to Trick those around us, and Treat ourselves with all of your running reactions. It won't be the case of Pumpkins, Dead-brides and Bats- but Screams, Blood, Heavy Machinery and Shouts of those of the unknown. You'd be a fool to not follow your appearance.

As a volunteer, I have gotten to meet new, interesting people who were also involved within the Scaring process and those who were also on the Production and Stewards team. Together we have helped one another to complete the cursing kingdom of doom around our stage, and when the curtains are drawn tonight for the first time to the public; their eyes will come alive with fearsome fright and inexplicable indications of gruesome exhortations of terror.
The General Public will be guided through the Biome led by our eerie-experts who are set to flicker the fright into those walking rhythmically one by one further into the darkness. Wandering mad-men will walk around restlessly in the light-less-caverns, jumping out on their jolting victims and creeping constantly, cunningly closing in on their prey. Dangerous dooming "stills" staring endlessly at your passing-by will subtly sneak their way into your brains, blasting you into the blundering madness of what is around actually you. As soon as the trembling tremendous amounts of tantalizing fear hits one person, it spreads like live-fire to the next- in a never-ending chain of nightmares through your teasing trip at Eden. Are you ready?
WARNING: THIS IS NOT FOR THE FAINT HEARTED

Busy Bodies

The Big Green Bus was brought along for a 'Family Fun Day' for those who live nearby within the St. Austell area to Poltair Secondary School today for those who were wandering around & enthusiastic to take part.

To follow on, The Big Green Bus is The Eden Project's way of spreading the word to those who can be reached, but cannot reach us. The bus contains interesting, intriguing and original factual information on how those around us and how everyone can live an efficient green life (and also save a few-bob in the mean time).

Furthermore, The bus revealed itself last year to the general public at Bestival, blasting out the message to cut your showers short and shredding shoddy-meat products to their degrading birth. Foremost, and fearful to some: The future is green, go-getting and guaranteed to make life easier for everyone- and Eden does want you to know about it. Even if other obscure oppositions don't.

As awareness attempted to arrive in it's bliss, The Barefoot Games remained hidden to the public once more. As the ages of our Volunteers are 16-25, there was limited unlucky recruitment opportunity, that didn't stop us hanging in hope. Even if it wasn't to make an appearance here, our opportunity may open itself up else where.

To continue, Even if myself and the Eden volunteers didn't get to spread the word about Barefoot, we still got to explore the bus for ourselves. As new-to-the-game volunteers, we all came away learning something scary about the world we live in. If I hadn't visited the Big Green Bus today I wouldn't have learnt that the meat within a Rustlers beef burger alone, uses a staggering 2300 litres of water through production: the same amount as a kilogram of rice. However, the rice would last lengthy, longer days; the burger would last a lonely, lacking lunch. I also learnt that a tenth of the women on Earth are unable to read or write, and 60% of the world is Asian.

Green, Gathering Groups of all kind and Generating a Knowledge for decent days of living for everyone. Make sure you catch the Green Bus!

Stepping in Barefoot

The Eden Project, inspiring ways that sustainable living is possible and encouraging a friendly take on life. Yes?

The Eden Project, bringing those who have a love for the outdoors and building new ways for the community to come together. Yes?

The Eden Project: A community that helps to bring those who have talents like no other, (or like some) into events monthly and encouraging those, young, vulnerable volunteers to get active and out there into the future business world. Yes.

The Barefoot Games is something any one through the ages of 16 to 25 can really step into. It is a funded scheme through The Eden Project that actively encourages young people of Cornwall to show off their talents. The programme was originally started to spread the magic of the 2012 games, to get young people active, to get them outdoors and to get them doing something for themselves as individuals, as well as for the charity. Eden describes it as a 'catalyst' speeding up the numbers in the audience of the Olympics and subtly speeding up the respect the younger generation have for the world around them. Hurrying along the process of development, gathering people who are willing to increase their skills, fitness and lifestyle and produce people from the not-so-cultivating-or-capital Cornwall we live in presently. The Barefoot Games will have the ability to show people that they don't have to conform to the things they should do, and rather what they want to do. It will encourage those who aren't in need to give enthusiasm to those who are and it will enhance the culture that we live in, not only for today: but for tomorrow.

The last thing I want to do is preach, or to tell you that it's for you. It's something to be decided on your own. I'm here to tell you what's happening inside Eden. To tell you to not misjudge it through meandering comments, but to experience Eden for yourself. Throw yourself into the perspective of another, and don't see it as the perception of: 'plants, wildlife, and old-people', but as a 'fresh new take on life', and something that could throw you into the future you specifically want.

I'm going to be reporting back to you on the events at Eden that are soon to arise, such as, Halloweden where I will be pretending to carve voodoo dolls and constantly concentrating creepily at those around me- oh, and i'll also have big, backcombed hair and deathly demented face (so that's not something to be missed!). Also, I will be bringing you the Arts Cafe on the fifth of November, where I will be watching, meeting and interviewing the World Beatboxing Champion Bellatrix, and the witty, intelligent Dizraeli & The Small Gods. With other interesting acts such as Kate Tempest, and DJs' Jelly Jazz appearing it's set to be an interesting night at the least. It's one that everyone there will definitely Remember, Remember..
